If your work involves gaming machines in New South Wales, you need Responsible Conduct of Gambling training first. It applies to gaming-floor and gaming-area staff, staff who pay out winnings, hotel licensees, registered-club secretaries and directors, and Responsible Gambling Officers.

The course teaches you how to promote responsible gambling, reduce gambling harm and meet your legal obligations at work.

Before you book

A quick language check is part of enrolment. You'll need enough English to read, write and understand the course. After booking, you'll complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check in your student account. You need to pass it to do the course. Not sure? Try a practice check first. What you'll need

A USI. A Unique Student Identifier.

Photo ID. A valid photo ID — shown when you arrive for an in-person class, or uploaded in your student account if you study by Zoom.

An email address and mobile number. Liquor & Gaming NSW sends your online assessment link to them.

You must be 18 or over to work with gaming machines. Under-18s are not allowed in the gaming machine areas of New South Wales hotels and clubs.

Already hold a NSW RCG? If your competency card is current, expired less than 28 days ago, or your interim certificate was issued less than 5 years ago, you cannot be enrolled in the full course again. See the renewal steps in the FAQ below, or call us before you book.

NSW competency card with RCG endorsement

Physical and digital, with your photo. Your card and its RCG endorsement are valid 5 years — renew with the online RCG Refresher before it expires.

The entrance has one step through a standard-width door. There is no alternative entrance.

Getting there

The venue is close to Kings Cross Station, and buses stop nearby on William Street. Use the Transport for NSW Trip Planner for the best current service and accessible-travel information.

Parking

There is no customer parking on site. Paid parking is available nearby at Wilson Parking and at Secure Parking in Kings Cross. Limited metered street parking may be available. Always check the signs. Parking availability, hours and fees can change, so check the operator's website before travelling.

Enter directly from William Street through the shopfront branded Edway and Training Aid. There is one public entrance.

What happens after you book

  1. 1Check your emailYour confirmation email shows your venue and time, or your joining link. It comes from no-reply@edway.edu.au. It usually arrives within a few minutes of booking.
  2. 2Set up your student accountLog in with the details in your confirmation email and set up your account.
  3. 3Have your USI readyA Unique Student Identifier is required for this course. Get or find yours at usi.gov.au.
  4. 4Upload your photo IDUpload a valid photo ID in your student account. It's required for all nationally recognised training and confirms your identity for your certificate.
  5. 5Complete a short LLND checkIn your student account you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check. You'll need enough English to take part and to pass it.
  6. 6We confirm your enrolmentOnce you've finished the LLND check, we confirm your enrolment by email. If there's a problem with your eligibility, we'll contact you directly before you start.

Getting your competency card

  1. 1Get your interim certificateAfter your course is lodged, you'll get an email and SMS from OneGov with a link to the online assessment. When you pass, follow the prompts and tick the declaration — your interim certificate is then issued. It's valid for 90 days and you can work with gaming machines straight away.
  2. 2Apply at Service NSWTake the interim certificate and 100 points of ID to a Service NSW centre. You must apply yourself — nobody can apply for you.
  3. 3Use your digital cardYour digital card is available in the Service NSW app right after your ID check.
  4. 4Watch for the posted cardYour physical card is posted — allow about a month. The card cost is included in your course fee.

How long does my RCG last?
Your NSW competency card's RCG endorsement is valid for 5 years. To renew, you complete the short online Liquor & Gaming NSW RCG Refresher before it expires and pay only the card-issue fee. We do not run refresher courses.
