What you need before you enter a confined space

Enter and work in confined spacesRIIWHS202E · Statement of Attainment

You train to go into a confined space, work in it and get out again. That means planning the job, testing the atmosphere, using the right protective equipment and working to an entry permit.

It suits operational workers in the resources and infrastructure sectors, safety compliance staff and supervised technicians. It's valued on construction, mining and utilities sites.

Why do this course?

This ticket gets you into confined-space work across construction, mining and utilities — a business has to train workers before they go in, and that covers the stand-by person and the supervisor as much as the person entering the space.

Questions, answered

I'm the stand-by person and never enter the space. Do I still need the training?
Yes. The confined spaces code counts the stand-by person as a relevant worker, along with anyone who completes entry permits, monitors conditions, or supervises the job. The training has to cover the hazards, the permit and the emergency procedures for all of them.
Is a confined spaces ticket a licence?
No. Confined-space entry is regulated work under WHS law, but it isn't a high-risk-work licence class, so there's no state licence or card — what you hold is a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, and it's accepted in every state and territory.
