Category 1 and 2 food businesses across Australia have to appoint a Food Safety Supervisor. This is the course that qualifies you for the role.

It's for cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen hands and food-business managers — anyone appointed to the role, or about to be.

Why do this course?

Every café, restaurant, takeaway and catering business has to appoint a certified Food Safety Supervisor, and this is the certificate that person holds — the business can nominate the owner, the manager or the chef.

  • School canteen or out-of-school-hours care supervisor
  • This training does not cover supervising food handling in licensed industries such as aged care or food manufacturing.

Where your Statement of Attainment is recognised

Your Statement of Attainment meets the Food Safety Supervisor requirement for class 1 and class 2 food premises anywhere in Victoria. Victoria has no separate state certificate — the units are the credential.

How you'll train

In person

You attend a one-day classroom course with a trainer. Your ID is checked when you arrive.

The venue is a short walk from Anzac Station and Stop 20 Anzac Station on St Kilda Road. Anzac Station has lift access, and the tram stop has level-access platforms. Parking

There is no customer parking at the training venue. Paid public parking is available nearby at Nationwide Parking on Queens Road and at Wilson Parking's Gateway Car Park on St Kilda Road. Limited paid and time-restricted street parking may also be available. Always check the signs. Parking availability, hours and fees can change, so check the operator's website before travelling.

Finding the entrance

Enter through the main Bowen Crescent building entrance and go to Level 1. Suite 1.05 has Edway signage.

Look for Unit 2. The exterior is clearly Edway-branded. Training Aid branding appears inside the venue.

What happens after you enrol

  1. 1Check your emailYour confirmation email shows your venue, date and time. It comes from no-reply@edway.edu.au. It usually arrives within a few minutes of enrolling.
  2. 2Set up your student accountLog in and set up your account.
  3. 3Have your USI readyA Unique Student Identifier is required for this course. Get or find yours at usi.gov.au.
  4. 4Complete a short LLND checkIn your student account you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check. You'll need enough English to take part and to pass it.
  5. 5We confirm your enrolmentOnce you've finished the LLND check, we confirm your enrolment by email. If there's a problem with your eligibility, we'll contact you directly before you start.
  6. 6On the dayBring one valid photo ID and arrive 15 minutes early. Your ID is checked when you arrive.

  1. 1No application neededYour Statement of Attainment is issued on the same day your assessments are completed.
  2. 2Your record is emailed to youYour nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is emailed to you when you finish, and it's always in your student account to download.
  3. 3How long it lastsFood Safety Supervisor certification must have been obtained within the past 5 years (Standard 3.2.2A). In Victoria, by 8 Dec 2028 every Food Safety Supervisor must hold a certificate issued no earlier than 8 Dec 2023.
