What this course covers

Prepare and Serve Espresso CoffeeSITHFAB025 + SITXFSA005 · Statement of Attainment

You train on commercial espresso machines. You'll grind the beans and get the extraction right, texture milk, set up your station, and talk customers through the coffee menu.

The course covers two nationally recognised units. SITHFAB025 is the barista unit. SITXFSA005 is its food-hygiene prerequisite, and you complete it here — nothing to finish first.

Before you book

A quick language check is part of enrolment. You'll need enough English to read, write and understand the course. After booking, you'll complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check in your student account. You need to pass it to do the course. Not sure? Try a practice check first. What you'll need

A USI. A Unique Student Identifier.

Photo ID. A valid photo ID — uploaded in your student account before the online part, and shown when you arrive on the day for the in person class.

Accepted ID. Your photo ID must be Australian-issued, or an international passport — student and university IDs are not accepted.

Why do this course?

You walk out able to pull a consistent shot, texture milk and run a coffee station on commercial machines — the coffee skills cafe and bar employers ask for. The food-hygiene unit is included too — that is the training food businesses have to make sure their food handlers have done.

Where your Statement of Attainment works

This is nationally recognised training — your Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB025 and SITXFSA005 is accepted in every state and territory. The food-hygiene unit, SITXFSA005, also meets the food-handler training requirement wherever you work.

Your Statement of Attainment is the document you carry. Barista training has no licence or card attached to it, in any state.

How you'll train

In person

You work through a short online module, then join a 6-hour practical session on commercial espresso machines with a trainer.

A street-level shopfront on William Street, near Kings Cross Station. There is one entrance, with a step at the door. Your practical session runs here, on commercial espresso machines.

The entrance has one step through a standard-width door. There is no alternative entrance.

Getting there

Parking

There is no customer parking on site. Paid parking is available nearby at Wilson Parking and at Secure Parking in Kings Cross. Limited metered street parking may be available. Always check the signs. Parking availability, hours and fees can change, so check the operator's website before travelling.

Finding the entrance

Enter directly from William Street through the shopfront branded Edway and Training Aid. There is one public entrance.

What happens after you book

  1. 1Check your emailYour confirmation email shows your venue, date and time. It comes from no-reply@edway.edu.au. It usually arrives within a few minutes of booking.
  2. 2Set up your student accountLog in with the details in your confirmation email and set up your account.
  3. 3Have your USI readyA Unique Student Identifier is required for this course. Get or find yours at usi.gov.au.
  4. 4Upload your photo IDUpload a valid photo ID in your student account. It's required for all nationally recognised training and confirms your identity for your certificate.
  5. 5Complete a short LLND checkIn your student account you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check. You'll need enough English to take part and to pass it.
  6. 6We confirm your enrolmentOnce you've finished the LLND check, we confirm your enrolment by email. If there's a problem with your eligibility, we'll contact you directly before you start.
  7. 7Do your online moduleThere's an online module to work through — about 2 hours. You can do it before or after your practical session. Your Statement of Attainment is issued once the module is complete.
  8. 8On the dayBring one valid photo ID and arrive 15 minutes early — if you're late, you may not be let in. Your ID is checked when you arrive.
