Questions, answered

Is the White Card nationally recognised?
Yes. You receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001. A valid construction induction (White) card is recognised across Australia, so you don't need a separate local card to work interstate. Site-specific inductions still apply, and your card lapses after 2 years out of the construction industry.
How long does it take?
About 6.5 hours including breaks — one day, in person.
Which states can I book?
You can book in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Working in Queensland? A nationally recognised construction induction card is recognised across Australia, so a card issued in another state lets you work on Queensland sites.
What do I need to enrol?
You'll need a valid photo ID and your Unique Student Identifier (USI). You'll also complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital check in your student account after booking. For in-person sessions, bring enclosed footwear.
How long does my White Card last?
There's generally no fixed expiry, but your card lapses if you're out of construction work for 2 or more years. A few states have their own validity rules. Pick your state to see the exact validity and who issues your card.
What jobs require a White Card?
Any work classed as construction work on an Australian site needs a current White Card — that covers construction labourers, trades assistants and apprentices across the construction trades, and traffic controllers working on construction sites. Traffic control needs its own traffic-control accreditation as well as your White Card — you need both.
Do I need a White Card for traffic control?
For traffic control on a construction site, yes — but the White Card on its own is not enough. Traffic control needs its own traffic-control accreditation as well, so you need both: our Traffic Controller (TC1) course takes a current White Card as a mandatory entry requirement, and you need your Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 as the evidence — a plastic White Card is not accepted, and entry is refused without it.
I have an old Victorian Red Card — is it still valid?
Yes. A Victorian Red Card issued before 1 July 2008 is still valid. If you'd like to move to a White Card, an online Red Card transfer is available in Victoria.
