What this course covers

Provide First Aid in an Education and Care SettingHLTAID012 · Statement of Attainment

This first aid course is written for education and care settings: early childhood educators, family day care educators, outside school hours care staff and teachers.

Your Statement of Attainment covers four units — HLTAID012, HLTAID011, HLTAID010 and HLTAID009 — so first aid and CPR are covered as well.

HLTAID012 is on ACECQA's list of approved first aid qualifications, and it meets the first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training requirements set out in regulation 136 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations.

Before you book

A quick language check is part of enrolment. You'll need enough English to read, write and understand the course. After booking, you'll complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check in your student account. You need to pass it to do the course. Not sure? Try a practice check first. What you'll need

A USI. A Unique Student Identifier.

Photo ID. A valid photo ID — uploaded in your student account before the online part, and shown when you arrive on the day for the in person class.

Two minutes of CPR. You also need to be physically able to do 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin on the floor.

A short online module. You work through it before your class. It takes 1–3 hours.

Why do this course?

Education and care services have to have people on the floor with current first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training at all times — this is the one certificate that covers all three, which is why services ask for it.

In person

You spend a full day in a classroom with a trainer. You practise CPR and first aid on manikins, after finishing the online module.

There is no customer parking on site. Paid parking is available nearby at Wilson Parking and at Secure Parking in Kings Cross. Limited metered street parking may be available. Always check the signs. Enter directly from William Street through the shopfront branded Edway and Training Aid. There is one public entrance.

There is no customer parking on site. Limited public parking may be available nearby, including the small Blacktown Council Car Park 72 on Hope Street. Parking limits and availability vary, so check all signs. Allow extra time to park and walk to the venue.

Look for Unit 34 and the Edway/Training Aid signage. The entrance leads to a staircase up to the training rooms.

What happens after you book

  1. 1Check your emailYour confirmation email shows your venue, date and time. It comes from no_reply@trainingaid.com.au. It usually arrives within a few minutes of booking.
  2. 2Set up your student accountLog in with the details in your confirmation email and set up your account.
  3. 3Have your USI readyA Unique Student Identifier is required for this course. Get or find yours at usi.gov.au.
  4. 4Upload your photo IDUpload a valid photo ID in your student account. It's required for all nationally recognised training and confirms your identity for your certificate.
  5. 5Complete a short LLND checkIn your student account you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check. You'll need enough English to take part and to pass it.
  6. 6We confirm your enrolmentOnce you've finished the LLND check, we confirm your enrolment by email. If there's a problem with your eligibility, we'll contact you directly before you start.

  3. 3How long it lastsYour Statement of Attainment does not expire. First aid units (HLTAID011 & HLTAID012) are refreshed every 3 years; CPR (HLTAID009) every 12 months. The ACECQA-approved qualification is valid 3 years.

Do I need any first aid experience before I book?
No experience needed. There is no first aid certificate and no other course you have to hold before you book this one.
How long does the course take?
8 hours in the classroom, including breaks. There is also an online module of 1–3 hours that you finish before your class.
Which units does my Statement of Attainment cover?
Four units — HLTAID012, HLTAID011, HLTAID010 and HLTAID009. First aid and CPR are covered by the same Statement of Attainment.
Who issues my Statement of Attainment?
Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411) delivers this course and issues your Statement of Attainment.
How often do I need to redo it?
Every 3 years for the first aid units (HLTAID011 and HLTAID012). You refresh the CPR unit (HLTAID009) every 12 months.
Will my Statement of Attainment be recognised in other states?
Yes. Your Statement of Attainment for HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is nationally recognised, so it is accepted in every state and territory.
Can I do this course online?
No. The training is a classroom session with a trainer. There is an online module you finish beforehand, but the course itself is in person.
Do I need a USI?
Yes. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required for this course, and you can get one at usi.gov.au.
What do I need to bring on the day?
One valid photo ID. Your ID is checked when you arrive.
Does this course meet the ACECQA requirement?
Yes. HLTAID012 is on ACECQA's approved-qualifications register, and it covers the first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training required by regulation 136 of the Education and Care Services National Regulations. The approval belongs to the qualification, so it applies wherever the National Quality Framework does.
