Confined Spaces

Two practical courses, completed on separate training dates

This bundle includes Working at Heights and Confined Spaces. You choose and attend each course separately.

Working at Heights

Work safely at heightsRIIWHS204E · Statement of Attainment

You train for work where a fall is possible — building and construction sites, roof repair and maintenance, high-rise storage areas, and anywhere else a fall could happen. Fall prevention comes first and is the main focus of the day. Work positioning and fall-arrest systems are covered for the situations where prevention is not enough.

The day mixes theory with hands-on practice. You cover the work health and safety rules that apply, then do the practical work alongside a trainer.

  • What you'll learn
  • Identify the work requirements, procedures and instructions for the job
  • Run a risk assessment before the work starts
  • Access and install fall-prevention equipment
  • Fit and use lanyards, straps and harnesses correctly
  • Set safe anchor points and use work positioning
  • Use ladders safely and work with fall-arrest systems
  • Clean up the work area when the job is done

Confined Spaces

Enter and work in confined spacesRIIWHS202E · Statement of Attainment

You train to go into a confined space, work in it and get out again. That means planning the job, testing the atmosphere, using the right protective equipment and working to an entry permit.

It suits operational workers in the resources and infrastructure sectors, safety compliance staff and supervised technicians. It's valued on construction, mining and utilities sites.

  • What you'll learn
  • Plan and prepare for confined-space work — identify the risks, complete the entry permit, choose your protective equipment and set the emergency procedures
  • Test the atmosphere, keep in contact with the stand-by person and work to the permit
  • Follow the exit procedures
  • Clean up, inspect the equipment and complete the maintenance records

Why do these courses?

Working at Heights

Employers have to make sure anyone doing fall-risk work is trained, so most sites ask for this ticket before you start. There is no heights licence in Australia — this training is what they mean by one.

Commonly asked for

  • Roofer
  • Solar panel installerSolar accreditation also takes an electrician's licence and the solar units.
  • Construction labourerConstruction sites also need a current White Card.

Confined Spaces

This ticket gets you into confined-space work across construction, mining and utilities — a business has to train workers before they go in, and that covers the stand-by person and the supervisor as much as the person entering the space.

Required for

  • Confined-space entry worker
  • Stand-by person
  • Permit issuer
  • Supervisor of confined-space work

Questions, answered

How do I choose the course dates?
Continue to the booking page and choose your Working at Heights date first and your Confined Spaces date next.
Do the courses run on the same day?
No. This bundle has 2 separate course dates. You choose one available date for each course.
What do I receive when I finish?
You receive 2 course credentials, one for each course you successfully complete.
Working at Heights: Is there a working at heights licence in Australia?
No. Safe Work Australia's list of high risk work licences covers scaffolding, rigging, dogging, cranes, hoists, forklifts and boilers — working at heights is not on it, and no state issues a heights card. What employers and sites ask for is training: this course gives you a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for Work Safely at Heights, which is the evidence they are after.
Working at Heights: What jobs ask for a working at heights ticket?
Roofing and construction work where you could fall — employers have to make sure anyone doing fall-risk work is trained, so most sites ask for the ticket before you start. Solar panel installers need it too: the unit this course gives you, RIIWHS204E, is one of only two heights units Solar Accreditation Australia accepts for accreditation, alongside an electrician's licence and the solar units. On a construction site you will also need a current White Card.
Confined Spaces: I'm the stand-by person and never enter the space. Do I still need the training?
Yes. The confined spaces code counts the stand-by person as a relevant worker, along with anyone who completes entry permits, monitors conditions, or supervises the job. The training has to cover the hazards, the permit and the emergency procedures for all of them.
Confined Spaces: Is a confined spaces ticket a licence?
No. Confined-space entry is regulated work under WHS law, but it isn't a high-risk-work licence class, so there's no state licence or card — what you hold is a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, and it's accepted in every state and territory.
