The short answer

If you are at an employable age, you will know the job market is an elbows-out, busy space. Gaining new skills quickly is becoming more important as each year passes. That's where short courses in Melbourne come in. They give you industry-specific training, so you gain essential qualifications and improve your employability.

Edway runs short courses at two Melbourne training centres: Melbourne CBD and Hallam in the south-east. A second set of courses runs online, so you can do them from anywhere in Victoria.

The courses that get people working fastest are the White Card for construction sites, Traffic Control (TC1 + TMI1) VIC for roadwork, the RSA for bars and venues, and First Aid or CPR for almost any workplace. You can see the courses and upcoming dates on the Melbourne locations page.

Why short courses are worth it

Short courses are a practical way to upskill without committing to a lengthy programme. They give you immediate value by focusing on hands-on training and job readiness, so you pick up job-ready skills fast. Are you looking to start a new career, meet industry requirements or improve your existing knowledge? Short courses are an excellent choice!

  • Fast, focused learning. Each course teaches the essential skills for the job and nothing else.
  • More job options. Many short courses are nationally recognised, which is what employers and sites ask to see.
  • Flexible study. Many courses run online and self-paced, so you study around your shifts. The guide Online or in a classroom explains each way a course runs.
  • Career progress. You add skills for your current job, or move into a new field, without giving up work to study full-time.

Who should take a short course?

Short courses suit a wide range of people:

  • Job seekers looking to get into construction, traffic control or hospitality.
  • Current workers who need an extra certificate to move up.
  • Business owners and managers who need workplace safety training for themselves and their team.
  • Students and graduates who want practical skills alongside their study.
