Online or in a classroom: how do Edway's short courses run?

Every Edway training course runs one of three ways: self-paced online, live online over Zoom, or in a classroom. Find the one that fits your week.

The short answer

You've finally decided to upskill. Maybe it's for a promotion, a career switch or simply to keep your qualifications current. Now comes the big question: do you train online or in a classroom?

Edway short courses run in one of three ways: self-paced online, live online over Zoom, or in a classroom. Each course page shows the options for your state before you book, so you can pick the one that fits your work, your family and your week.

Self-paced online

Self-paced online means you study on your own, in your own time. Life doesn't always line up with set class times. Online courses let you complete your training when it works for you, whether that's over a few nights, early mornings or on a Sunday afternoon with coffee in hand.

  1. Book and pay online.
  2. You get a confirmation email with your student-portal login.
  3. Log in and work through the modules at your own pace.
  4. Complete the online assessment. Your certificate is issued when you finish.

You need a computer or tablet, internet and a web browser. Have your USI (Unique Student Identifier) ready for accredited courses.

You have 2 months to finish a self-paced online course. Pause when needed, take notes and revisit modules. Working at your own pace gives you space to absorb the material.

Live online over Zoom

A Zoom class is a real class with a trainer, held at a set time. You join from home instead of a classroom. That means no travel time, no parking stress and no rushing across town to make the start.

  1. Book and pay online.
  2. You get a confirmation email with your Zoom link and session time.
  3. Download and set up Zoom before the class.
  4. Join with your webcam and microphone on.
  5. Complete the assessment in or after the session.

You need a computer or tablet with a webcam and microphone, stable internet and the Zoom app. Have your photo ID ready. The trainer checks your identity on camera, and your camera must stay on for the whole class.

Classroom short courses Melbourne and Sydney

A classroom course is a trainer-led day at a venue. You learn face to face, alongside other students, and you do the whole course in one go. You get a confirmation email with the venue, date and time. You attend, and you do the assessment on the day.

Bring photo ID. Wear enclosed footwear for construction courses. Arrive 15 minutes early, because your identity is checked on arrival.

Short courses in Sydney run at venues such as Darlinghurst, Seven Hills and Mona Vale, depending on the course. Short courses in Melbourne run at the Melbourne and Hallam venues, depending on the course. Each course page lists its own venues.

Which short courses run which way

This table covers three popular short courses. The issuing RTO (registered training organisation) is the one that issues your certificate.

Course State How it runs Issuing RTO
White Card NSW Classroom in Sydney, or Zoom class Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411)
White Card VIC Classroom in Melbourne or Hallam Edway Training (RTO 91401)
White Card ACT, SA Zoom class Edway Training (RTO 91401)
White Card TAS, WA Self-paced online Edway Training (RTO 91401)
RSA NSW Classroom in Sydney, or self-paced online Edway Training (RTO 91401)
RSA VIC Self-paced online Edway Training (RTO 91401)
First aid NSW Classroom in Sydney, with online pre-study Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411)
First aid VIC Classroom in Melbourne, by enquiry Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411)

The White Card for Western Australia is for WA residents only. For first aid in Melbourne, check the course page for dates. If none are listed, send an enquiry instead of booking a date.

Edway's site lists courses from two RTOs. The issuing RTO for your state is shown on the course page before you book.

Onsite training courses for your company

Edway also brings the training to you. Onsite group training is available for any Edway course, in any state, so your whole team can train together at your workplace. Send an enquiry with the course, your location and the number of staff to get started.

The trainers

Classroom courses and Zoom classes are led by a trainer in real time. You can ask questions as you go. Our trainers are easy to understand, easy to talk to and know the skills actually needed in the workplace. A good trainer helps you work more safely, step up to a senior role or head your career in a new direction. In a self-paced online course you work through the modules on your own, at a pace that suits you.

Next step

Edway's short courses are a good place to start your career, or to take it in a new direction, and we're here to help you find the right one. Pick your course, then choose your state to see how it runs there. Start with the White Card course page, or go to the RSA course page or the First Aid course page. The price is on each course page.
