Does your traffic control ticket need renewing?

Victorian traffic tickets run on a 3-year clock. What the TTM Digital Card, Short Term Low Impact and Utilities TTM certificates each need.

The short answer

Yes, on a 3-year cycle. Your TTM Digital Card is valid for 3 years from the date it is issued, and a refresher is required every 3 years to keep it current.

Short Term Low Impact and Utilities TTM certificates also run for 3 years, from the day you finish.

Edway does not run a traffic refresher course. Get in touch before your 3 years is up.

Three tickets, three clocks

Each Victorian traffic ticket carries its own 3-year rule, and the clock does not start at the same moment for all of them.

Your ticket Valid for The 3 years starts
TTM Digital Card (TC1 + TMI1 Combined) 3 years The date the card is issued
Short Term Low Impact certificate 3 years The day you finish the course
Utilities TTM certificate and Digital Utilities card 3 years The day you finish the course

Your card follows the practical

If you did the combined Traffic Controller and Traffic Management Implementer course, your card is not issued at the end of the classroom days. It is issued once your post-course practical is accepted.

That practical has its own 6-month deadline: 20 logged hours of traffic control and a supervised assessment for TC1, plus 3 traffic management setups for TMI1.

So your 3 years runs from the card's issue date, not from the week you sat in the classroom. Check the date on the card itself.

One ticket does not cover another

A Short Term Low Impact or Utilities TTM certificate confirms those duties in Victoria only. Neither qualifies you as a Traffic Controller, a Traffic Management Implementer or a Traffic Management Designer.

Renewing one of them does not give you any of those roles.

Traffic Controller (RIISS00058) and Traffic Management Implementer (RIISS00060) are also two separate skill sets. The combined course covers both — 6 units in total.

Check what your paperwork says

Your Statement of Attainment lists the units you completed. The combined course covers six units. For TC1: RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace, RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat, and RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs. For TMI1: RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes, RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plans, and RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic control devices. RIICOM201E sits in both skill sets.

If you hold a TTM Digital Card, your practitioner status is publicly checkable on the Austroads register.

We do not run a refresher

Edway does not sell a traffic refresher, top-up or renewal course. The only traffic control course we run is the combined Traffic Controller (TC1) and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI1) course — 3 days in Victoria, with the theory in Melbourne CBD and the practical at Hallam.

If your ticket is close to 3 years, contact us before it expires and tell us which ticket you hold and when it was issued.

These are Victorian courses, delivered and issued by Edway Training (RTO 91401) as an Austroads and Department of Transport and Planning Victoria approved Temporary Traffic Management provider. A Victorian ticket is not directly accepted in New South Wales, Queensland or Western Australia — those states run their own schemes.

Next step

To book the combined course, see Traffic Controller (TC1). You need a current White Card, and Edway requires the Statement of Attainment for unit CPCWHS1001 as evidence — the plastic card on its own is not accepted.

For the other two tickets, see Short Term Low Impact and Utilities TTM.

To ask about your own ticket, contact us through the site's contact page.
