What this course covers

Operate as part of an emergency control organisationPUAFER005 · Statement of Attainment

You learn how to act when a workplace emergency starts, and how to follow your building's own emergency response procedures.

It's for floor wardens, area wardens and deputy wardens — and anyone responsible for the safety of the people in a building during an emergency.

The course covers all three parts of the job: planning before an emergency, acting during one, and the work that follows. You don't need any experience or an earlier certificate to start.

Before you book

A quick language check is part of enrolment. You'll need enough English to read, write and understand the course. After booking, you'll complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check in your student account. You need to pass it to do the course. Not sure? Try a practice check first. What happens after you book

  1. 1Check your emailYour confirmation email shows your venue, date and time. It comes from no_reply@trainingaid.com.au. It usually arrives within a few minutes of booking.
  2. 2Set up your student accountLog in with the details in your confirmation email and set up your account.
  3. 3Have your USI readyA Unique Student Identifier is required for this course. Get or find yours at usi.gov.au.
  4. 4Complete a short LLND checkIn your student account you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) check. You'll need enough English to take part and to pass it.
  5. 5We confirm your enrolmentOnce you've finished the LLND check, we confirm your enrolment by email. If there's a problem with your eligibility, we'll contact you directly before you start.
  6. 6On the dayBring one valid photo ID and arrive 15 minutes early. You can't join the class if you're more than 15 minutes late. Your ID is checked when you arrive, and it has to be sighted before your Statement of Attainment can be issued. You complete your assessment in class.

Is this fire warden course nationally recognised?
Yes. You finish with a Statement of Attainment for PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation, issued by Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411). It is accepted in every state and territory, and no state adds rules of its own on top.
How long does my Statement of Attainment last?
It does not expire. The Australian Standard for emergency planning recommends that wardens refresh their skills at least every 6 months. That is industry practice, not law, so ask your workplace how often it wants its wardens retrained.
How long is the course, and how is it delivered?
It runs for 3 hours in a classroom with a trainer, and you complete your assessment in the same session.
Do I need any experience or an earlier certificate to do this course?
No. There is nothing you need to have done first. You do need a USI (Unique Student Identifier) and a valid photo ID, and enough English to take part — after booking you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital check in your student account.
What do I need to bring on the day?
One valid photo ID — a passport, Australian driver's licence, proof of age card or student card. Arrive 15 minutes early. You can't join the class if you're more than 15 minutes late. Your ID is checked when you arrive, and it has to be sighted before your Statement of Attainment can be issued.
Do I need a USI?
