How do you get a White Card in Tasmania?
Tasmania's pathway: an online self-paced course, then an in-person application at Service Tasmania, with WorkSafe Tasmania issuing the card.
Written byEdway

The short answer
In Tasmania you do the training online at your own pace, then apply for your card in person at Service Tasmania within 60 days of finishing.
Edway Training (RTO 91401) delivers the course and issues your Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001. WorkSafe Tasmania issues the Tasmanian construction induction card.
The course is online and self-paced
There are no class dates to wait for. You start when you like, and you can stop and come back.
Most people finish in around 6.5 hours. Your enrolment stays open for 2 months, counted from the date of your confirmation email.
If you do not finish inside that window, your enrolment is recorded as not completed and the fee is not refunded. You would need to enrol again.
What you need
You need valid photo identification, a Unique Student Identifier (USI) and enough English to take part. After you book, you complete a short language, literacy, numeracy and digital check in your student account.
For the course itself you need a computer or tablet, internet and a web browser.
Applying at Service Tasmania
The card is a separate step, and you have to do it in person.
- Take your Statement of Attainment, a completed construction induction card application form and your identity documents to a Service Tasmania shop.
- Apply within 60 days of finishing your training. After 60 days you also need a written declaration from Edway confirming you completed the course.
- Pay the application fee when you lodge. Keep your receipt.
- WorkSafe Tasmania issues your card and posts it to you.
If your card has not arrived 60 days after you lodged the application, call WorkSafe Tasmania.
Starting work while you wait
Some employers will let you start work if you show your Statement of Attainment and your Service Tasmania receipt.
Check with your employer first, and with WorkSafe Tasmania if you are unsure.
How long the card lasts
There is no fixed expiry. Your card stays valid unless you are out of the construction industry for 2 or more years.
A valid Tasmanian card is recognised across Australia, so you can use it interstate. Sites can still run their own inductions.
