Lost your White Card? How to replace it in each state

Lost, stolen or damaged White Card? Replace it through the state that issued it. Who replaces it in each state, and the steps to follow.

The short answer

You replace your White Card through the state or territory that issued it. It does not matter where you live now.

In some states a government body replaces your card. In others, the training organisation (RTO) that ran your course replaces it.

A valid card from any state is recognised across Australia. So once you have your replacement, it works on sites in every state.

Tip: take a photo of your card, or write down its number, and keep it safe.

Your card or your Statement of Attainment?

When you pass White Card training, you get two different things:

  • Your White Card is the card you show to work on a construction site. Depending on your state, it comes from a government body or from your RTO.
  • Your Statement of Attainment is the certificate from the RTO that trained you. It shows you passed the White Card unit (CPCWHS1001).

Sometimes the certificate is what you need, not the card. For example:

  • Some courses ask for it. Our Traffic Controller course needs your Statement of Attainment, not the plastic card.
  • In Queensland, you give it to your RTO to get a replacement card. In Western Australia, you take it to another RTO if yours has closed.

Who replaces your card in each state

State that issued your card Who replaces it How
New South Wales SafeWork NSW, through Service NSW Online on Service NSW, or a form lodged with Service NSW
Victoria WorkSafe Victoria Online through myWorkSafe, or call WorkSafe Advisory
Australian Capital Territory Access Canberra Online with your ACT Digital Account, or by email
Tasmania WorkSafe Tasmania A replacement form lodged at a Service Tasmania outlet
South Australia The RTO that ran your training Contact that RTO
Western Australia The RTO that issued your card Contact that RTO
Queensland The RTO that issued your card Contact that RTO

New South Wales

SafeWork NSW replaces White Cards through Service NSW. A replacement fee applies.

  1. If your address or contact details have changed, update them first.
  2. If your details have not changed, choose "Replace online" on Service NSW. You pay by Visa or Mastercard.
  3. If you can't replace it online, fill in the SafeWork NSW replacement form and lodge it with Service NSW.

Your new card is posted to you. If your card has errors on it, call 13 10 50.

Victoria

WorkSafe Victoria replaces lost, stolen or damaged cards.

  • Online: log in to your myWorkSafe account. On WorkSafe Victoria's lost, stolen or damaged licences page, choose "Order replacement card".
  • By phone: call WorkSafe Advisory on 1800 136 089.

Queensland

In Queensland, the RTO that issued your card replaces it.

  1. Contact the RTO that issued your card.
  2. Give them your White Card Statement of Attainment.
  3. Give them a declaration that says how your card was lost, stolen or destroyed.

If that RTO has closed, contact another Queensland RTO that delivers the training. They will tell you how to apply and about any fees.

An old Queensland blue card can't be replaced. You need to do the training again. If your card was issued in another state, that state replaces it.

Edway does not run a Queensland White Card course.

South Australia

SafeWork SA does not issue replacement cards. The RTO that ran your training replaces it, so contact them.

Can't remember where you trained? If it was after 1 January 2015, your USI record (your VET transcript) shows where you did the training.

Western Australia

In Western Australia, the RTO that issued your card replaces it.

  1. Find your RTO using WorkSafe WA's Online Licence Search.
  2. Contact that RTO and ask for a replacement.

If that RTO has closed, take your White Card Statement of Attainment to another RTO. They may be able to issue you a new card.

Tasmania

WorkSafe Tasmania replaces cards that were first issued in Tasmania. If your card came from another state, apply in that state.

Take these to a Service Tasmania outlet:

  • a completed Construction Induction Replacement Application Form
  • your construction card number
  • your evidence of identity documents.

A fee applies. The amount is shown on the form. If your card has not arrived 60 days after you lodged it, call WorkSafe Tasmania.

Australian Capital Territory

Access Canberra replaces cards issued in the ACT. A fee applies.

Apply online using your own ACT Digital Account (Level 1+ or Level 2). A parent or guardian can't apply for you. If you can't apply online, email Access Canberra — the address is on its White Card page.

Lost your card but trained with Edway?

You need your Statement of Attainment

Contact us and we'll email you a copy, whichever state you trained in. In New South Wales, your Statement of Attainment comes from Training Aid Australia (RTO 91411), which delivers our NSW White Card course.

You need the card itself

If you did your White Card with Edway in South Australia or Western Australia, we issued your card. Contact us and we'll reissue it. The reissue fee is listed in our Terms and Conditions.

In other states, your card comes from the government body in the table above.

Other questions about a lost card

Do I need to renew my White Card?

No. There is no renewal. A lost card is replaced, not renewed.

Your card stays current while you have worked in construction in the last 2 years. In the ACT, the card does not expire. Read more in Is my White Card still valid?

Can't find any record of your card?

In South Australia, if you trained after 1 January 2015, your USI transcript shows where you trained.

In Western Australia, if you can't find your details, your RTO's name or your Statement of Attainment, you'll need to do the training again.
