White Card Online Training Explained: Everything You Need to Know

The way you complete remote White Card training depends on the state where you take the course. A white card online course may use a scheduled Zoom class or self-paced modules, with practical competency assessment completed separately where required. When you book through Edway Training, your location determines the delivery and card-issuing process that applies. The course format, assessment requirements and process for receiving your card therefore need to be checked against your location.

Calling a White Card course “online” only identifies the broad delivery method. The actual format and assessment process depend on the course available in your state. Your white card online training must still meet the competency and assessment requirements that apply in your jurisdiction. We therefore need to establish your location when you enrol with Edway Training, because it determines which remote delivery process applies to you.

Online White Card Delivery

A screen-based course still has to cover the competency requirements of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.

Our South Australian course is delivered through a virtual classroom on Zoom. Tasmania and Western Australia use online modules, with demonstrated skills completed through digital upload or Zoom. Those skills include communication requirements and showing the correct fitting of required PPE. This form of online construction induction training therefore involves assessment of what you can demonstrate, not simply access to course material.

What You Need Before You Enrol

Before registering, you need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) and the identification required for your course. You also need to meet any state residency requirements that apply. For online white card training, make sure you have reliable internet access, a suitable device with a camera and any PPE required for the practical assessment.

Check these requirements before booking, particularly if you need to complete the course by a certain date. Missing identification, PPE or the required technology can prevent you from completing parts of the enrolment or assessment process as planned.

Training and Assessment Conditions

Remote delivery still requires you to meet the enrolment and assessment conditions attached to your course. Our Western Australian online course requires WA residency and that you are physically located in Western Australia when completing the course. Our Tasmanian and South Australian options also require evidence of residency.

If practical skills form part of the assessment, the assessor needs evidence that you can perform the required task rather than simply recognise the correct answer on screen. Before enrolling in a white card online course, check:

• The course applies to your state or territory

• You meet any residency or physical-location requirements

• You have the required ID and USI

• You have access to the required PPE, internet connection and webcam

• You understand how practical or communication skills will be assessed

• You know who issues the Statement of Attainment and who issues the physical card

Training and card issuance also happen separately in some states. Completing your course successfully does not always mean the physical White Card comes directly from the RTO.

CPCWHS1001 and Certification

CPCWHS1001 identifies the competency you must successfully complete to receive your Statement of Attainment. Completing the course online changes the delivery and assessment format available in your state; the competency requirements still apply. Completing white card certification online still requires successful assessment, including any practical skills that must be demonstrated.

After you successfully complete the assessment, the process for receiving your white card differs between jurisdictions. In Tasmania, we issue your Statement of Attainment, then you apply through Service Tasmania for the white card. In Western Australia, we issue the Statement of Attainment and mail your Western Australian Construction Induction card.

Delivery Method and Competency

Remote construction training is only suitable where the required knowledge and practical skills can be assessed through an approved delivery method. The format available therefore depends on the requirements that apply in your jurisdiction.

For your White Card, the important question is how the required competency will be assessed in the course available to you. Zoom, self-paced modules and digital skills demonstrations provide different ways to complete approved training. Regardless of the approved delivery method, the competency being assessed remains CPCWHS1001.
