Edway Training is accredited by Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver SITXFSA005 ‘Use hygienic practices for food safety’ and SITXFSA006 ‘Participate in safe food handling practices’ units of competency.

These units meet the Department of Health Victoria training requirements for Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Level 2 training.

Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Level 2 Course Information


  • Food Premises Requirement: Not all food premises need a food safety supervisor. Class 1 and most class 2, along with class 3A, do. Lower-risk food handlers, such as class 3 and 4, typically do not.

  • Responsibility: All individuals in a food business, including owners, are accountable for ensuring the food served is safe.

  • Legal Compliance: Non-compliance with the Food Act 1984 may result in serious legal consequences, including refusal or revocation of food premises registration.

  • Training and Competency: A food safety supervisor must attain specific competencies, achievable through training provided by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), relevant to their business’s food sector.

  • Pre-requisite: There is no training pre-requisite for the units of competency SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006.

  • Minimum Standards: Our training course covers minimum competency standards applicable to hospitality and various retail sectors.

What you will learn


The units of competency SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006 focus on foundational food safety practices. SITXFSA005 emphasises hygienic practices to prevent food contamination, while SITXFSA006 covers safe food handling practices across storage, preparation, and disposal.

Together, they provide an overview of essential food safety measures:

  • Adherence to organisational food safety and hygiene procedures.

  • Safe storage, preparation, and disposal of food.

  • Proper use of single-use items.

  • Maintenance of cleanliness in food handling areas.

  • Effective personal hygiene to prevent food contamination.

  • Reporting of unsafe practices and personal health issues.


Meets Government Training Requirements


Units SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006 meet the requirements of the new food safety standard 3.3.2A of ANZ Food Standards Code.

Successful completion of these units satisfies minimum competency standard requirements for the hospitality and retail sectors.

Attendance


Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary registration paperwork.

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED

if participants arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time.

LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy)


It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.

From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.

All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.
