Construction Induction Training (also known as White Card training) is essential for individuals entering the construction industry, focusing on health and safety legislative requirements.

  • This mandatory course, approved by SafeWork NSW, opens career paths in construction roles.

  • Delivered in a 6-hour (excludimg breaks) classroom format, participants will develop skills in identifying hazards, managing risks, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • They will also learn effective incident response and health and safety communication.

  • Accredited by ASQA and SafeWork NSW, the course awards a Statement of Attainment and a plastic white card.

  • The unit of competency covered is CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.


For those who would rather complete the White Card course remotely, we offer a Zoom-based online option.

Please note that you’ll need to provide and wear your own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during the session, as it's required for assessment.

Course Information


Who Needs White Card

Construction Induction training is required for:

  • all persons who carry out construction work, including site managers and supervisors, surveyors

  • labourers and tradespersons, who access operational construction zones unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person

  • all persons whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones



White Card Expiry Period

While there is no expiry for a white card, if a person is out of the industry for 2 consecutive years, the white card becomes void and the course must be redone.


Unit of Competency Details

This course supersedes and is equivalent to CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. SafeWork NSW recognises Statements of Attainment issued under a new unit of competency.

What will you receive


Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:

  • Statement of Attainment

  • Construction Induction plastic card (which will be issued and mailed by SafeWork NSW)


What will you learn


Construction Induction training covers Work Health and Safety (WHS) related topics, such as health and safety legislative requirements of construction work, construction hazards and risk control measures, health and safety communication and reporting processes and incident and emergency response procedures.

White Card training course consists of PowerPoint presentation, class activities, videos and end of the day written and verbal assessment.

Nationally recognized


SafeWork NSW issued plastic white cards are nationally accepted all across Australia.



Course Requirements



Identification


Participants MUST PROVIDE 100 points of ID as per SafeWork NSW requirements.

Entry to the class will be refused if students do not provide orginal ID as required below.

There are special arrangements apply for participants in the below groups where points system does not apply.
Some examples of accepted combination of Evidence of Identity documents:
  1. For overseas persons recently arrived in Australia (for less than six weeks)

    • International passport + flight ticket or travel itinerary + bank card or driver’s licence

  1. School sector

    • Australian Birth Certificate/card (minimum 14 years) issued by the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages

    • Student ID card with school crest/seal, photo, student’s name and date of birth

    • A written statement on school letterhead confirming the student’s name and date of birth

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

    • Two written statements on company (e.g. Indigenous organisation and Centrelink) letterhead verifying the person’s identification




Attendance


Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary registration paperwork.

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED

if participants arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time.

LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy)


It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.

From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.

All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.

For further information on student support services please refer to the Student Handbook.

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED

if a participant fails the LLN test.
