White Card ACT


Construction Induction Training (also known as White Card) is essential for individuals entering the construction industry, focusing on health and safety legislative requirements.

  • This mandatory course, approved by Worksafe ACT, opens career paths in construction roles.

  • Delivered in a 6-hour zoom format, participants will develop skills in identifying hazards, managing risks, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • They will also learn effective incident response and health and safety communication.

  • Accredited by ASQA and WorkSafe ACT, the course awards a Statement of Attainment and a plastic white card.

  • The unit of competency covered is CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

  • After successfully completing the General Construction Induction Training, the registered training organisation will issue the person with certification. The person must then apply to Access Canberra for a General Construction Induction Card within 60 days of the certification being issued. For more information, visit Access Canberra website.

  • You may apply to replace your lost, stolen or damaged WorkSafe ACT issued plastic card by completing the Construction and workplace licensing application for a replacement card online and paying the prescribed fee.

Course Information


Who Needs White Card

Construction Induction training is required for:

  • all persons who carry out construction work, including site managers and supervisors, surveyors

  • labourers and tradespersons, who access operational construction zones unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person

  • all persons whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones



White Card Expiry Period

If a person is out of the industry for 2 consecutive years, the white card becomes void and the course must be redone.


Unit of Competency Details

This course supersedes and is equivalent to CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. WorkSafe ACT recognises Statements of Attainment issued under a new unit of competency.

What will you learn


Construction Induction training covers Work Health and Safety (WHS) related topics, such as health and safety legislative requirements of construction work, construction hazards and risk control measures, health and safety communication and reporting processes and incident and emergency response procedures.

White Card training course consists of PowerPoint presentation, class activities, videos and end of the day assessment.

Nationally recognized


WorkSafe ACT issued plastic white cards are nationally accepted all across Australia.

Participants MUST PROVIDE photo ID prior to entry into the class.

Please note that non-Australian Driver’s Licences are not accepted.

LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy)


It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.

From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.

All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED

if a participant fails the LLN test.


USI (Unique Student Identifier)


From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a USI.

STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED

if a participant does not provide a valid USI number.All participants MUST provide their USI.
USI can be obtained via www.usi.gov.au

PPE Requirement



To attend the class, you MUST have the following PPE available prior to the beginning of the class.

PPE is available for sale through the hardware warehouses (such as Bunning or RSEA).
Please note that PPE must meet Australian Standards (refer to below list for standards and examples).
Following PPE is required
1. Head Protection: Hard Hat Safety Helmet
2. Eye Protection: Safety Glasses
3. Hearing Protection Ear Plugs
4. High Visibility Reflective Vest

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED if does participant does not provide required PPE

ACT Residency


An ACT White Card can only be obtained by learners currently residing in ACT

Students will be required to provide evidence of ACT residency.
