Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) – SITHFAB021
The RSA course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to a safe and enjoyable environment in licensed premises where alcohol is served and sold. It is required for all licensees and managers, crowd controllers, RSA marshals, volunteers as well as service, security and promotional staff who are selling, offering or serving liquor in establishments with general, on-premises, late night and packaged liquor licences.
Barista Course – SITHFAB025 & SITXFSA005

If you are travelling between states SA, WA, NT, ACT, QLD or TAS our Travel Australia plastic card will allow you to work in the hospitality industry involving the sale and service of alcohol.

RSA and Barista Course Information
RSA course should be undertaken only if you have never done this course before or your competency card expired more than 28 days ago. If you have a valid RSA competency card or it has expired recently, you need to do a L&GNSW online refresher course.
If you did RSA course but didn’t order a competency card and your RSA interim certificate is expired, you do not need to do a course again. You cannot work in the industry after an expiration date but you still can go to Service NSW and order your card.
If you don’t remember when your competency card expires, you can check it on L&GNSW portal in the section “Manage RSA/RCG Competency Card“.
If you have recently moved to NSW and hold a competency card issued in another state, please see Online NSW RSA Bridging course.
An RSA Interim certificate is valid for 90 days after which you must use an RSA competency card to work in the liquor industry.
Students should apply for an RSA competency card by themselves in the Service NSW centre after completing a course successfully and receiving an interim certificate. Note: no extra cost applies for ordering the competency card.
Travel Australia Plastic Card which allows working in the hospitality industry involving the sale and service of alcohol in SA, WA, NT, ACT, TAS, QLD.
RSA competency card is valid for 5 years after that a refreshment is required.
This course supersedes and is equivalent to the SITHFAB002 qualification.
Barista Training is required for anyone seeking to work as a barista or in roles that involve preparing and serving espresso coffee and handling food safely.
The Barista Course should be undertaken if you have never completed nationally recognised barista training before or your previous Statement of Attainment has lapsed.This training combines both SITHFAB025 – Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee and SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety.
On successful completion of your Barista Course you will receive a Statement of Attainment for both units issued by Edway Training Pty Ltd (RTO No 91401).
The course begins with online pre-learning followed by a 6-hour hands-on training session.During the session you will learn to operate commercial espresso machines and grinders, prepare and serve espresso coffee to a high standard, apply food safety practices, and maintain espresso equipment.
A practical end-of-day assessment must be passed to complete the course.You will demonstrate key barista skills such as correct grinding, milk texturing, drink presentation, hygiene and workstation setup.
Your Statement of Attainment is issued on the same day if all requirements are met and your USI is verified.
Barista training credentials are nationally recognised and do not expire, but employers may require evidence of recent training or refresher skills depending on workplace policy.
This course covers the prerequisite food safety unit SITXFSA005 as part of the training, so no separate enrolment is needed.

Barista Topics:
Efficient workflow & coffee station setup, Selection & grinding of coffee beans for optimal extraction, Customer service and order taking with coffee recommendations, Quality control & monitoring of espresso extraction, Milk texturing techniques for various beverages, Attractive presentation & prompt service of coffee, Cleaning and maintenance of espresso equipment
Courses consist of PowerPoint presentations, class activities, videos and assessments.

Travel Australia Card
The Travel Australia plastic card enables individuals to work in the hospitality industry, specifically in positions related to the sale and service of alcohol, when traveling across states SA, WA, NT, ACT, QLD and TAS.
The fees for obtaining a Travel Australia card are:
Travel Australia Plastic Card (valid for SA, WA, NT, ACT, TAS, QLD): $25.00

LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital)
It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.
From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.
All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.
