Edway Training's Friable Asbestos Refresher courses are intended for individuals who have already completed the nationally accredited CPCCDE3029 – Remove Friable Asbestos or superseded units (CPCCDE3015/CPCCDE3105A) and now need to update their theoretical knowledge in accordance with current industry practice.
These refresher courses are structured to align with the Victorian Compliance Code: Removing Asbestos in Workplaces - Clause 79, which recommends that workers engaged in Class A (friable) asbestos removal undertake refresher training at least every year.
To be eligible, participants must have previously obtained a Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3029 – Remove Friable Asbestos. (or superseded units)
Participants must also hold a current Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3028 – Remove Non-Friable Asbestos (Class B), as completion of the Class B qualification is a prerequisite for undertaking Class A asbestos removal refresher training.

Accredited Refresher (CPCCDE3029)
If you wish to renew or update your formal unit of competency, you must complete the accredited Friable Asbestos Removal Refresher.
This program includes completing the online learning prior to attending our Hallam campus to complete the practical components.
On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency CPCCDE3029 – Remove Friable Asbestos.
Edway Training is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this unit.

Non-Friable Asbestos Refresher Information
The course theory is delivered entirely online and self-paced, allowing learners to complete the material at their convenience.
It includes a range of learning materials, such as:
Interactive modules
Visual guides and infographics
Scenario-based knowledge checks
Multiple-choice quizzes
Embedded regulations and code excerpts
Important: You MUST complete the online learning before attending your practical class. If the theory is not completed, you will not be able to participate in the practical session.
The practical component is delivered face to face over a 4-hour session, providing learners with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a supervised, hands-on environment. It includes activities such as:
Practical application of friable asbestos removal procedures
Establishing asbestos removal enclosures
Operating negative pressure units
Using decontamination units and equipment
Using relevant tools and equipment
Demonstrations of correct safety and decontamination methods
Scenario-based practical tasks

Upon successful completion of the course, on the day of training, participants will receive:

What you will learn
Through the online component of the Friable Asbestos Refresher course, you will update and reinforce your theoretical knowledge on key areas, including:
Preparing for friable asbestos removal
Preparing and enclosing the asbestos removal area and site
Establishing and maintaining negative pressure enclosures
Carrying out friable asbestos removal procedures
Undertaking decontamination processes
Cleaning up the work site
Packaging, transporting and disposing of asbestos waste
Completing all required regulatory processes
Once you have completed the online learning, you will attend the practical session to refresh and reinforce these skills through hands-on activities—applying procedures, practising safe work methods, and demonstrating competency in accordance with industry and compliance standards.

Identification & Age
Participants must provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g. passport, Australian driver’s licence, proof of age card, student card).

LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital)
It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.
From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.
All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.

USI (Unique Student Identifier)
From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a USI.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT CANNOT BE ISSUED
if a participant fails to produce a valid USI number.
USI can be obtained via www.usi.gov.au

Prerequisite
Participants MUST HOLD and upload a current Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3028 – Remove Non-Friable Asbestos (or equivalent) .Participants MUST HOLD and upload:
A current Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3029 – Remove Friable Asbestos. (or equivalent)
A current Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3028 – Remove Non-Friable Asbestos Class B (or equivalent.)
Both qualifications are required to undertake the accredited Friable Asbestos Refresher course.
Participants must hold the following unit of competency:
CPCCOHS1001A, CPCCWHS1001, or CPCWHS1001.
Participants must be able to produce evidence of completion of these units in the form of a Statement of Attainment from a registered RTO or a copy of a USI transcript showing the relevent unit.
