Confined Spaces Refresher Sydney
The Confined Spaces Refresher Training provides updated skills and knowledge for workers who already hold a nationally recognised confined space certification. This course ensures ongoing compliance with safety standards and workplace health and safety (WHS) legislation.
Refresher training is recommended every 12–24 months in line with Australian Standard AS2865-2009 Confined Spaces. In addition, all personnel participating must hold a recognised, nationally accredited confined space certification that is no older than 3 years.

Confined Spaces Refresher training course is delivered and statement of attainment is issued by Edway Training Pty Ltd (RTO No 91401).
Edway Training is accredited by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this training course and meets the SafeWork NSW Standards.
This training course complies with the WHS Regulation and the Code of Practice for Confined Spaces.
This training is mandatory for workers who are required to enter and work in confined spaces. Failure to comply with training requirements can result in penalties and fines under the WHS Act and Regulations.



Confined Spaces Refresher
Course Information
This refresher course reinforces essential competencies for safely entering and working in confined spaces across the resources and infrastructure industries.
The training covers:
Planning, risk management, and use of PPE
Emergency procedures and compliance with permits
Safe entry, exit, and communication protocols
Post-entry clean-up, inspection, and documentation
It is designed for:
Operational Workers who enter confined spaces as part of their duties
Safety Compliance Personnel responsible for monitoring and enforcing confined space standards
Technicians under supervision who need to demonstrate updated knowledge and adherence to safe work procedures
The RIIWHS202E Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course supersedes and is equivalent to RIIWHS202D Enter and Work in Confined Spaces.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:
Statement of Attainment issued by Edway Training with the below unit of competency:

What will you learn
Refresher participants will revisit the following key areas:
Plan and Prepare
Confirm work requirements, review documentation, update risk assessments, and check PPE readiness.
Ensure compliance with permit conditions and emergency plans.
Work in Confined Spaces
Test and monitor atmospheres for harmful elements.
Apply entry procedures and communicate effectively with standby personnel.
Demonstrate compliance with current confined space entry permits.
Exit Confined Spaces
Follow updated exit procedures.
Recover tools and equipment, complete inspections, and ensure permit closure.
Clean Up and Review
Perform housekeeping, store equipment, and process maintenance records.
Reflect on updated standards and reinforce safe work practices.
Course requirements

Attendance
Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary registration paperwork.
ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED
if participants arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time.

USI (Unique Student Identifier)
From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a USI.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT CANNOT BE ISSUED
if a participant fails to produce a valid USI number.
USI can be obtained via www.usi.gov.au

Identification
Participants MUST PROVIDE 1 form of government-issued I.D (e.g. passport, Australian driver’s licence, NSW proof of age card) White Card or Certificate of Training.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED
if participants do not provide a valid form of I.D.

LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital)
It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.
From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.
All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.

Statement of Attainment Requirement
All participants enrolling in the Confined Spaces Refresher Course must hold a current and valid Confined Space Statement of Attainment. To meet eligibility requirements:
The Statement of Attainment must have been issued within the last 3 years by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), under the unit of competency RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces (or its superseded equivalent RIIWHS202D).
Certificates older than 3 years are considered out of date under industry best practice, and participants will need to complete the full initial course rather than a refresher.
