Confined Space 2 Day Training

Confined Space Entry training course is aimed for the persons whose occupation involves work in or around confined spaces.

Confined Space Entry training course teaches participants how to:

  • conduct hazard identification
  • enter and work in confined spaces in accordance with permits for confined space operations
  • use confined space equipment.

What is a Confined Space?

According to the Safe Work Australia Code of Practice ‘Confined Space’ a confined space means an enclosed or partially space that:

  • is not designed or intended primarily to be occupied by a person; and
  • is, or is designed or intended to be, at normal atmospheric pressure while any person is in the space; and
  • is or is likely to be a risk to health and safety from an atmosphere that does not have a safe oxygen level; or contaminants, including airborne gases, vapours and dusts, that may cause injury from fire or explosion; or harmful concentrations of any airborne contaminants; or engulfment.

Confined spaces are commonly found in vats, tanks, pits, pipes, ducts, flues, chimneys, silos, containers, pressure vessels, underground sewers, wet or dry wells, shafts, tenches, tunnels or other similar enclosed or partially enclosed structures.

Course Overview

Confined Space Entry 2 day training course covers following units of competency:

  • Enter confined space MSAPMPER205C
  • Gas test atmosphere MSAPMOHS217A
  • Issue work permits MSAPMPER300C
  • Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) HLTAID001
  • Work in accordance with an issued permit MSAPMPER200C
  • Conduct local risk control RIIRIS201D

Training session covers following topics:

  • Identifying confined spaces
  • Hazard identification
  • Relevant legislation and Australian Standards
  • Roles and responsibilities of management and employees
  • Risk assessments and hierarchy of hazard controls
  • Confined space work permits and entry procedures
  • Worksite policy and procedures
  • Safety procedures
  • Lockout and tag out methods of isolation
  • Atmospheric monitoring and gas detection
  • Tripods, VED’s and fall protective equipment
  • Emergency procedures
  • Breathing apparatus introduction

During confined space training session, participants will complete practical activities, such as:

  • Entry into a confined space
  • Rescue from a confined space

Confined Space Entry training course consists of PowerPoint presentation, case studies, practical activities, videos and end of the day assessment.

Training Provider Information

The training course is delivered and certificates are issued by the Fire and Safety Australia Pty Ltd (RTO No 22250).

Fire and Safety Australia is approved by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this training course.

Course Requirements

Participants must provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, proof of age card)

Participant must provide valid USI.

USI can be obtained online via Unique Student Identifier (USI) website.

2 days (8 hours per day)
