Construction Induction Training (also known as White Card or Red Card training) is essential for individuals entering the construction industry, focusing on health and safety legislative requirements.

Who Needs White Card

Construction Induction training is required for:

• all persons who carry out construction work, including site managers and supervisors, surveyors

• labourers and tradespersons, who access operational construction zones unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person

• all persons whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones

Owner Builder

When applying for an Owner Builder Permit, you will be required to provide a copy of your plastic white card. Please note that the Victorian Building Association (VBA) accepts ONLY plastic cards. Paper Statements of Attainment are not accepted.

White Card Expiry Period

If a person is out of the industry for 2 consecutive years, the white card becomes void and the course must be redone.

To get a replacement for a lost or stolen Worksafe VIC issued white card, please contact Worksafe VIC at 1300 852 562.

Unit of Competency Details

This course supersedes and is equivalent to CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. Worksafe VIC recognises Statements of Attainment issued under a new unit of competency.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:

• Construction Induction plastic card (which will be issued and mailed by Worksafe Victoria)

What will you learn

Construction Induction training covers Work Health and Safety (WHS) related topics, such as health and safety legislative requirements of construction work, construction hazards and risk control measures, health and safety communication and reporting processes and incident and emergency response procedures.

White Card training course consists of PowerPoint presentation, class activities, videos and end of the day assessment.

Nationally recognized

Worksafe VIC issued plastic white cards are nationally accepted all across Australia.

Course Requirements

Identification

Participants must provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g. passport, Australian driver’s licence, proof of age card).Please note only an international passport is accepted as a non-Australian document.

IMPORTANT: Student ID (eg university or college) are NOT accepted as a valid form of ID.

Attendance

Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary registration paperwork.

LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy)

It is a requirement that all students must have basic English reading, writing, and understanding skills. Interpreters are not allowed for most courses.

From 1/7/25, all students must complete a basic LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) test before enrolment. This ensures you can understand the course content and get the right support during training.

All students enrolling in an Edway Training course are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills assessment as part of their student profile. This ensures they have the necessary skills to perform basic calculations, and to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, enabling them to successfully participate in the training and assessment process.
